Charlie Update...

As most of you know we've been having some concerns about Charlie lately and after trip to the dr. yesterday we think we have discovered the cause of her unhappiness... after another night of her screaming and sounding like she was drowning and then gasping for air and regulating her breathing we decided enough was enough and we needed a dr. to tell us it was either just normal fussy baby stuff or something was wrong so we took her to the dr. and got a diagnosis.
Apparently she has a valve that doesn't close all the way so when she eats if we lie her on her back her food doesn't stay down in her belly so she's just constantly regurgitating and eating her food over again (and since it was all going back into her throat she was gurgling and choking on it, so she was sounding like she was drowning). We had never noticed it before, but it was over an hour and a half since her last feeding and when we put her on her back she was swallowing again and re-eating it. So she has horrible heartburn and GERD - poor thing. So, they put her on baby zantac twice a day and we're not supposed to put her flat on her back except for diaper changes and hopefully we'll start seeing a happier baby! Just having her sleeping propped up last night was a HUGE improvement - she went to sleep at ten, didn't wake up until about two and then slept again until about six! I feel like a new woman today!!
As for the valve - he said they usually heal themselves by about the first birthday and as long as the medication controls the symptoms there is nothing for them to do. We're to try the zantac for a week or so and if we're not getting good results we can try the more "heavy duty" prevacid and if that doesn't work we can talk about other options, but hopefully the medication will work!
Not that I'm glad there's something "wrong" with the little lady, but I am glad that we've discovered what is causing her discomfort and hopefully we can get it under control and start seeing a happy baby!!

In other news - the girl is a HOSS!!! We weighed her for the fun of it yesterday and she is now over NINE POUNDS!!!! She was fully clothed and had a diaper on and was 9lbs 8oz, so the nurse said she's probably about 9lbs 2oz undressed... that's up from 7lbs 15oz just two weeks ago!! Told you, the girl likes to eat!!!
