The Beach!!
We just got back from a wonderful trip to the beach!! The car ride (while totally miserable) went better than expected and as long as I crammed myself between the two car seats in the back of John's camry and entertained the little ones it went pretty smoothly until about the last hour of each trip - and by that point we were ALL ready for a meltdown so it wasn't surprising that the little one cried non-stop!
The beach was fantastic though! Jack was SO in to it this year and had a blast catching a whale (a fish about three inches long caught using our goldfish net from home) and hermit crabs and "real crabs" and little minnows. He discovered that sand isn't much fun if it gets in places other than your hands and feet and decided after the first night of digging himself completely into the sand he wouldn't do that anymore! It was quite "itchy." He had a blast in the pool and is really getting quite good at swimming on his own!! John is a fantastic "coach."
The little peanut had a great time too. She loved the sound of the ocean and fell asleep within about five minutes of being out on the beach every time we set out! She loved the warm pool water and had a blast in the pool in the evening! She slept great at the hotel and for the first time in her life two nights in a row only got up ONCE!!! She blessed us with one little giggle before we left on vacation and apparently we just aren't that funny because she hasn't laughed since...
The best part of the trip was once we got there we didn't put the kids back in the car until it was time to go home! We had such a great time and since Grandma and "the ladies" were there at the same time John and I even got to have a date night! We can't wait to go back again next year! Jack is already planning what he'll do first...
I'm posting some videos from the trip here, but check the photo site (link to the right - Jack's online photo album) for a TON of pictures!!

Charlie catching the mobile with her feet...
In the ocean - Jack LOVED putting sand on his shirt for some reason...
Jumping in and swimming to Daddy - by the end of the trip he was swimming about half the length of the pool to John... pretty impressive!
Doing some crazy "side-wards" jumps!
Swimming to Daddy from the steps.
