Eat, Sleep, and ....

We've reached a happy routine at the Boyd household. It goes eat, gaze around the room a little, sleep, and then....you know. And repeat. Pretty standard for the course. Jack's next week is filled with doctors and activities: Rebekah's follow-up appointment is on Tuesday, and Jack's two-week appointment is on Thursday. We will of course be reporting on the results post-haste...

Due to overwhelming demand (and we mean demand), we'll be completely over-hauling Jack's Photo Site today, so check the link for a lot more pictures.

Jack's First Visit to the Doctor's Office

Although Jack had already seen his pediatricians twice in the hospital, today it was time for Jack to see where Pediatricians come from. His reaction to the office could be summed up in four words: release of bodily fluids. Other than that he wasn't very impressed.
Dr. Straub had nothing to say other than that Jack looks good and has gained quite a bit of weight. On the day of his release from the hospital Jack weighed 6 lbs. 11.5 oz. Today he weighed 7 lbs. 5 oz. That's 5.5 oz. in about two days. Obviously our observation that "he's a good eater" turned out to be true.
That's about all the news from Jack's Life. Check back later....

There's No Place Like Home

You heard it right: they decided to allow us to leave the hospital. We were starting to think it wasn't going to happen, but here we are. As you can see, Jack was thrilled at the prospect of finally seeing his home. However, after some paperwork and lectures about cleaning and such, we were out the door.
Our slight unease about introducing Jack's brother and sister after their short sabatical at the kennel was quickly resolved when the dogs showed practically no interest in the sleepy little guy. Speaking of which, Graco car seat manufacturers should go into the mattress business. Magic.
So as we sit here, napping away, being guarded over by the suddenly highly-trained and vicious guard dogs, we bid goodbye to the first phase of Jack's life and move on to the next: the part where we have to wash the stuff that he pees on.

As always, more to come. There are more pictures on Jack's Photo Site, so check back often...

Highly trained, and ready to kill......

Jack's Third Day on the Outside

Well, it's Jack's third day out in the cold, cruel world, and he's starting to figure it all out. Last night we had a little sleeplessness coupled with a breakthrough in the field of Breastfeeding. So his Harvard application already has one entry, which is nice.
We don't have a lot to report, other than that Jack will be getting "cut" tomorrow (Sunday 1/22). Yikes. Rebekah had a couple of sessions of antibiotics (just for safety's sake), and that will end tomorrow, and 24 hours after that we will be sprung (Monday).
As always, check back for more updates, and definitely check Jack's Photo Site for daily updates.

Thanks for all the love and support over the past 10 months or so to everyone...

Jack has entered the building....

That's right, he made it. After about 34 hours of labor and one C-Section, John Arrington Boyd II made his grand entrance. The saga started at about 2:00 on Tuesday when Rebekah's high blood pressure sent us to the hospital, and 34 hours of labor later we decided the time for a C-Section had arrived. Anyway, the end result was the same: Jack's here. So far he's liking his new environs: the only crying he has done so far was to protest the bathing by the nurses.

Check out this picture to start with, and lots more will be on the link to your right that says Jack's On-Line Photo Album, or by clicking here.

Check back tomorrow for much, much more.

It's GO TIME

Well, folks, it's basically GO TIME. We're posting today to let you know that:

1. Yes, we're still pregnant
2. Yes, we're completely prepared
3. Of course you're the first person on our list to call. I can't believe that you think we'd call anyone before you...

Now that that is out of the way, this is probably the last you'll hear from the Blog until J-Day. Check back on Thursday for more exciting stuff: there will be an almost instant audioblog so you can hear what Jack's got to say in his first hours, as well as pictures (once we can figure out what Web access is like in a hospital).

Next time we see you, there will be three of us....

A Slight Postponement

Well, Jack has decided to stay where he is for another week or so. Looks like we jumped the gun a little on the date (with some help from our healthcare providers). So now we're looking at Thursday the 19th, which not coincidentally is his due date. This time it's definite: it's either now or induction (he's apparently growing faster than the US deficit). You can guess which one we're hoping for. However, we'll tell you the same thing that we're telling outselves: he could be here sooner. Stubborn little...

You may have noticed the changes to Jack's Blog. We thought this would be a little less stark than the last iteration. Please use the "comments" button below if you have any suggestions for changes or if we're forgetting anything. Check back for more stuff to come.

Jack's Birthday: January 12th, 2006

That's right, Jack was born on January 12th, 2006. Wait, that's next week. O.K., Jack's birthday WILL be January 12th, after we enter the hospital the night before in order to get induced. The schedule, for now, is to go to the hospital 8:00 or 9:00 pm on Wednesday the 11th, get the drip started the next morning at about 5:00 am and then we wait and see what happens. Of course, we're hoping that what happens is.....Jack. More updates to come.....
