Into EVERYTHING!

Jack's new found mobility has been quite the adventure for him over the past week - he has been into EVERYTHING and I do mean everything! His favorites are the things he's not supposed to touch, for example the dog bowls, the blinds... things of that nature. He'll crawl up to them (and boy is he getting fast) and before he touches them he'll look up at you and give you this BIG smile like, I know I'm not supposed to do this, but I'm so cute surely you're not going to tell me no AGAIN... and then reach out for it. It's so cute it's really hard not to laugh, but that would defeat the purpose of telling him no so we try to keep the giggles to a minimum! So, we've spent the last week making the house as "Jack Friendly" as possible - we don't want his world filled with "no touches," so we're figuring out the balancing act of what can we leave out and what must be put away! (Note to self, the bar stools must be put away...)
He's also discovered that he can pull up on ANYTHING, the coffee table, the ottoman, the baby gates... he's not great a "cruising" yet, but he's figuring it out - he'll be walking before we know it! We're keeping our fingers crossed that it will still take some time for him to really figure that out!
Not much to report in the way of excitement for the Boyds... we're looking forward to the three day weekend and then next week for the start of Swim Lessons and the return of Storytime! Yeah! Check out the photosite for some updated pictures!

Mr. Mobile

It's official - Jack is mobile. He can get where ever he wants to and that's usually to the most dangerous place he can find! (Yes, he opened the drawer by himself.) Who ever would have thought full-on babyproofing would have to be done so soon?? Jack's new found mobility hasn't come without its bumps and bruises though - he's definitely not a pro (yet). His main problem is that he thinks he can go through walls - especially at the corner. He'll bump into and just power on forward - then get really mad when it doesn't work out and after the third bump or so it really starts to hurt so then the crying begins... Poor guy, he'll figure it out soon enough! He's also discovered that hardwood is not only hard on the knees (he does an odd little three legged crawl on the hardwood) it's also quite hard on the face and that you shouldn't reach out for something in the crawling position with both hands... But so far (knock on wood) there have only been little bumps that have disappeared by the next morning so he seems to be fairing well.
It was a quiet weekend for the Boyd Household - we went to the Woodland Art Fair (Jack loved looking at these giant steel mobiles - which the lady kept telling us at the bargain price of $2500 one could be ours) and that was about the extent of our excitement. It was so muggy out and then so rainy it was a great weekend to just stick close to home!

We have a crawler!

Look closely - Jack has two teeth! This has been a banner week for Mr. Jack. Not only has he mastered the art of getting from his belly to the sitting position, he is starting to crawl! It's not pretty and he doesn't get far yet, but it's definitely crawling. He can go a few "steps" before doing a nice big belly flop, but with a few tries he's definitely across the room to get whatever it is he's after... we can't believe how fast he's growing up! It's so exciting that he's maturing and turning into this fantastic little man, but at the same time we find ourselves asking where our little baby went...
Jack had a great weekend! We made a trip down to the Farmer's Market on Sat. morning - Jack loves people watching and looking at all the colorful produce! Then we took it easy for the rest of the day so he would be well rested for the wedding! He did great at the wedding and it was a beautiful ceremony! Grandma had the magic touch and got Jack to sleep long enough for John and me to enjoy dinner. When they started up the music he woke up, but he was in a great mood - we stayed much later than I thought we would and surprisingly Jack had a great day yesterday too! We stuck close to home and took it easy during the day so that Jack would be a happy camper at dinner with Nan and Poppy!

Teeth!!

Yes, that's right - I said TEETH, not tooth!! It seems our suspicions about Jack teething were correct. Thursday we noticed a tiny little bump with a dark line on the lower right side of Jack's mouth - by Sat. we noticed a very sharp little bump and right next to it the exact same little bump with the dark line that we saw just a few days before... So, it's official - Jack has teeth, almost. We can't wait for them both to push on through not only for Jack's sake (the little guy has been such a trooper - it's obvious he's been in pain and hasn't felt that great, but he's tried so hard to be in a good mood) but for ours too - he's going to be so cute with a toothy little grin, I can't wait to get a picture! That being said the past week has had it's ups and downs. He seems to have pretty good days, but at night when the toys are away and there's nothing to do but think about the teeth he's had it pretty hard. It's so funny watching him discover his new teeth - his little tongue has been at the front of his mouth (hanging out between his little lips) for days now and while it's not the most attractive look for the little guy - it's so cute watching him do it. He's also VERY fascinated by our teeth - he wants to look at and touch them all the time. We keep telling him that that's what he's getting and I'm sure he understands completely!
We had a nice relaxing week - two picnics at the pool and lunch with Grandma and Great Meam... a trip to Little Lambs for some new toys and clothes for the fall. We even went (briefly) to a petting zoo and Jack got to see a camel and some sheep and cows up close - it would have been a great Kodak moment, but of course the camera was at home. Not much on tap for the week ahead. We do have exciting plans for the weekend though - Jack gets to go to his first wedding! We're so excited to see Stephanie and Anthony tie the knot!! We're just keeping our fingers crossed that Jack is excited too as the event kicks off right around his bedtime! Check back next week and see how he handles the affair and hopefully we'll have some pictures of those teeth! To tide you over check out the photosite for some updated pictures...

Toasted Os!

We decided that it was time for Jack to start the wonderful Cheerios phase of his childhood, but as Jack is learning very early in his life we're cheap and pretty much buy only Kroger Brand items so Jack got Toasted Os... He wasn't too sure what to think about them at first and definitely has not mastered the art of picking just one up (but how will he ever learn with out lots and lots of practice) but when he was finally able to get one in his mouth he was quite proud of himself! I think over the whole weekend he maybe actually ate only three or four (the dogs are LOVING this new phase in Jack's life - they probably ate 20 or so) but he's certainly having fun with it!
We had a great week! We went swimming with the cousins, Jack had two great babysitting experiences (Thank you Nan!) and we had a great time down at the Farmer's Market discovering purple peppers!
Jack's still working on that tooth... he does have a "bump" now so hopefully it won't be too much longer before it breaks through! Check out the photosite for some updated pictures!!
