Jack's Life

Things have settled into a pretty regular routine in Jack's world. Eating and sleeping and whatnot certainly rule the day, but he's also added some travel to his routine. For instance, Thursdays at the library are Story Time, and Jack has made an appearance twice now. He's definitely the youngest member of the group, but as we all know he's advanced for his age. He's also made several trips to the Grandparents (that's Grandma and Nan and Poppy to you).
As those of you with some rudimentary math skills know, Jack has now passed the four week mark and is heading into the vast uncharted territory of having his age measured in months. Where does the time go?
That's about it for Jack's blog for the day. We will of course keep you updated on his comings and goings as they happen. Check his photo site often. It will be getting a complete overhaul soon.

Off the Hook....So to Speak

There was a preponderance of good news today, (of somewhat unequal significance). To start, we got the official word that Jack is "untethered." That is to say, his spinal cord is not tethered to his back. As some of you have been lucky enough to see, there is a dimple at the base of Jack's back, which in some cases can be a sign of a "tethered cord," or a spinal cord that is attached to the skin. Not a huge deal, if true (although it does require the services of a neurosurgeon), but a relief nonetheless that it is not the case. Now Jack just has to worry about what to tell the therapist about his dimpled butt.
Of less significance, but a source of considerable excitement at the Boyd household, Jack's umbilical cord fell off. Which is awesome, because that thing was gross. We feel like we can say that now that it's gone. Good riddance.
More pictures will be on his photo site shortly. Check back as often as possible....

He's.......HUGE

Yes, Jack's huge. Or at least he's on his way. Today at his two week appointment Jack was weighed (and weighed again in disbelief) and the final result was 8 lbs. 7 oz. Those of you keeping score will notice that means that Jack has gained 1 lb. 2 oz. in 9 days. "An unbelievable growth performance from a breastfed baby" was how the doctor put it. Not only that, but he's packed on an amazing 1/4 inch in height (or is that length?) Needless to say we're very proud. At this age, there aren't a lot of benchmarks with which to measure your kid against others, and we're looking forward to reliving our respective childhoods vicariously, so this is a great first step for us. Seriously. Anyway, more is always forthcoming, so check back often.....
