Happy Thanksgiving!

Jack had an excellent first Thanksgiving. We had dinner at Grandma's house and Nan and Poppy were there too! Uncle Ben brought Rory (the dog) and Jack thought she was absolutely hilarious! He LOVED having her lick his face and had a blast chasing the ball with her. Another hit at Grandma's is of course the piano - he had a great time putting on a concert for all of us. He wasn't too impressed with the Thanksgiving fare, but we did discover that he's more like his daddy than we originally thought - he went crazy over GREEN OLIVES... yes, that's right - he loves green olives. Strange child... he of course gets that from his father not me. The long weekend was nice and relaxing - we stuck close to home and put up our minimal Christmas decorations and that about did it for us! Jack is attempting to go to one nap but a few things are getting in his way 1. he's working on two more top teeth, 2. he's got a nasty cold/cough that is keeping him awake whenever he tries to sleep or nap and 3. he's not quite SURE he wants to do one nap... we're calling this an adjustment week and will save judgement on if he's truly a once a day napper. Due to the cold we're taking it easy this week. John and Jack have some Daddy and Me time this weekend while I'm off to the Annual Ornament Party on Sat. and then on Sunday it's a special treat for us all when we meet Nan and Poppy for Mexican Food!! A trip to the Children's Museum

This weekend we made a trip up to meet my cousins and their kids at the Cincinnati Children's Museum! Jack had such a good time seeing his "cousins" (not sure of what my cousin's children are in relation to him) and playing at the museum. He was most fascinated by the sand table - it had never occured to us, but he has never seen sand (where would he?) and he LOVED it. He wasn't too interested in using the tools and thankfully he wasn't too interested in eating it either - he just liked picking it up and letting it slide out of his hands. What fun! There was so much for him to do at the museum - there was also a water section where he could (and did) splash and play in the water and a construction zone where he had a great time playing with the "rocks" and pulling things out of a peg board! It was a great day!
We're looking forward to Jack's first Thanksgiving this week. It will be celebrated at Grandma's house and we're so excited because Nan and Poppy will be joining us too! Check the photo site for some more pictures from the museum!

Well at Last!

Jack has officially made it through his first illness. He woke up on Monday of last week with a fever and not really feeling himself... we figured it was just a cold because I had been feeling bad over the weekend, but we wanted to be sure so we took him to the dr. and they agreed - it was a cold and there was nothing they could do. They told us to keep an eye on him and if he got any worse to bring him back in... as the day progressed the little guy just kept getting worse and worse and by the time John got home from work all he wanted to do was sit in my lap under a blanket and be read to (so that's what we did - for HOURS...). That night he woke up with a scary high fever and even with Tylenol the entire day on Tues. he had a high fever so we took him back to the dr. to make sure he was okay and they said it was just a nasty virus and that it should run its course in a few days. He was just so pitiful - it broke our hearts - for two whole days he didn't smile, wouldn't play... it was so sad. He was such a trooper though and was never fussy or whiney... just wanted to be cuddled and held. Finally on Thursday he was officially fever-free for 24 hours and started to play again and by Friday he was 100% back to feeling good! So, we've made it through Jack's first illness. We took it easy last week - actually stayed home all week so nothing interesting to report... we didn't do a lot over the weekend either. Swimming lessons have moved to Sat. so both John and Jack are enjoying that they get to do that together! Nan came over on Sunday and brought a special surprise for Jack... Jerry Giraffe! He is a very well-loved toy that has been passed down from child to child since Aunt Kathie was a baby!! Jack was SO excited when he saw it... he loved being pulled around on it, but even better he LOVED pushing it around the house. He flew around the house with it all evening and when he woke up this morning it was the first thing he went for! What a hit! Jack has an exciting weekend ahead... we're going up to the Cincy Children's Museum to meet up with my cousins and their kids for the afternoon! Check back next week for details from the trip and check the photo site for some updated photos!
